Before you can edit objects, you need to create a selection set of the objects. A selection set can consist of a single object, or it can be a more complex grouping: for example, the set of objects of a certain color on a certain layer. You can create the selection set either before or after you choose an editing command. If the HIGHLIGHT system variable is on, AutoCAD highlights selected objects. You can make several changes to the same selection set. Use one of the following methods to create selection sets.

Over time, drawings may accumulate many named objects that are no longer needed. For example, you may have a text style that is no longer used by any drawing text, or a layer that contains no drawing objects.
Purging named objects reduces drawing size. You can purge individual named objects, all styles and definitions of a specific type, or all named objects in a drawing. Keep in mind, however, that you cannot purge named objects that are referenced by drawing objects. For example, you cannot purge a
linetype used by a line in your drawing.

AutoCAD commands are organized into categories in the Customize Toolbars dialog box. You can select a category to display a set of icons that represent a group of commands. AutoCAD also provides blank icons that you can assign to any command or macro.
