AutoCAD for Dummies: How to Draw an ARC – Part 3

Finally, we are now in the part 3 of the arc drawing in AutoCAD. So to start with, another method of drawing an arc is:

Center, Start, End

This method is the reverse of all the previous method because the starting point is at the center and the second point is the start point. Hope my explanation is not confusing. Again to start drawing, go to menu and choose Draw>Arc>Center, Start, End. AutoCAD will prompt: _arc Specify start point of arc or [CEnter]: _c Specify center point of arc: Then pick your first point ( see Fig. 9 ) on the screen then AutoCAD will prompt again: Specify start point of arc: which means that you should pick another point on the screen using your cursor. This will be the starting point of your arc ( see Fig. 9 ) . Then after that the command prompt will say: Specify end point of arc or [Angle/chord Length]: which you can just drag your cursor clockwise or counter clockwise click your mouse to create the arc.

You also have two option, by specifying the angle or the chord length as you can see in the command prompt [Angle/chord Length]:.

  1. If you want to specify the included angle, just type “A” and the command prompt will ask again: Specify included angle: then type any number you want like for example 20 then hit the enter button on your keyboard.
  2. if you want to specify the chord length, just type “L” and the command prompt will ask again: Specify length of chord: you can just drag your cursor until you see the white stretching line that represent the imaginary chord length. Then click your mouse to create the arc.

Center Start, Angle

This method is just a derivative of the arc command Center, Start, End on the first option. You just do what we have done in the Center, Start, End and just specify the included angle.

Center Start, Length

Just the same, a derivative of Center, Start, End on the second option. You only need to specify the length of chord to create the arc.

Continue

This arc command is very easy. You just need to specify two points of the arc, the start point and the end point. The unique feature of this command is it automatically continues a series of arcs you want to create ( See Fig. 11 ). Again to start drawing, go to menu and choose Draw>Arc>Continue. AutoCAD will prompt: _arc Specify start point of arc or [CEnter]: Specify end point of arc: the command was simultaneously executed so you only need to act on the last command which is asking you to specify the other point or the endpoint of the arc you want to create (see Fig. 10). To make a series of arc or various curve shapes, just make another arc on the last method we have done and you will notice that the first point of the second arc you created will automatically connect to the endpoint of the first arc (See Fig. 11)
